ColourPop Super Shock Eyeshadow Review and Swatches

Hi Everyone!

I have jumped on the ColourPop train. Is anyone shocked? I’m not. I have been curious about these shadows for so long, so with some of my Christmas money I decided to suck up the Canadian shipping (14.99?!…ouch) and make these babies mine. I got them last week and after taking some time to play with them I’m going to share my thoughts with you today.

Packaging

As usual, we’re going to first look at the packaging.

Packaging

ColourPop is based in California, so I was a bit worried about it getting to me intact. Luckily, there was a ton of care packed into the box and everything arrived as it should. Usually with cosmetics, you might get some bubble wrap or packing peanuts, but with this it came wrapped in a thick layer of of foam which filled the entire box. I was so impressed. Plus it was marked fragile on the outside, something I see less and less on the packages I receive. So far, so great I say.

Note

So once I got through the foam, I found a sweet handwritten thank you note addressed to me. If you’re familiar with ColourPop, then you’ll know that they actually do this for every package, which is such a nice personal touch. It might be small, but this kind of stuff takes time, so I do appreciate it.

Once I got through that, I made it to the shadows. Each came in it’s own little teal and white box and the side of each box reminds you to keep the lids closed tightly to ‘keep the magic in’. I seriously have become so paranoid about the lids being tight, I literally lay in bed wondering if all the lids are tight enough…ya…errr…we’ll refer to that as dedication. The packaging is so adorable and so nice considering these shadows are only $5. You just don’t see presentation like that often on affordable products. The only knock I have against the outer packaging is that the names weren’t written on the outside, so I did have to open them to see which shade was which. So minor since the shade names are on the shadows themselves. I’m being picky.

capon

As for a packaging of the shadows themselves, these come in little white pots with screw caps. Since these aren’t regular shadows (I’ll get to this), they can’t be depotted from my understanding as they need to be airtight. I usually don’t gravitate to single eyeshadows and I actually don’t really own any, but these are an exception. I’m not really bothered that I can’t depot them surprisingly. The only thing I will say about the screw cap is that if you’re hands are wet or greasy, they are pretty hard to get off. This morning I put some oil in my hair and then went to open one and my hand was sliding all over the place. Once again, minor. I think overall the packaging is so well done and looks so sleek. It’s completely my style.

Shadows

pattern

Now onto the good part, the shadows. These are so unique, it’s almost impossible to describe. The texture of these is like a cool mousse type texture.  It’s like a gel-mousse formula. I don’t consider these to be like cream shadows at all. These are so different than cream eyeshadows because they set like a powder and they don’t crease. Also unlike cream shadows, these don’t need anything on top to set, they are good to go on their own! A lot of the shades I chose are quite shimmery and some have glitter, but you can’t feel it at all. These are completely smooth. To go along with that, these have absolutely no fall out or at least I haven’t experienced any. Pretty incredible, right?

Application

They do recommend that you apply these with your fingers. For the purposes of this review I tried that method and I also used a brush to see how they would perform. I used my finger and got excellent pigmentation, but a bit of a messy application. It’s not my favourite method. It has nothing to do with the shadows, just my personal preference. I decided to use a brush and I still got good pigmentation, but I did need to build it up a tiny bit more. After both I prefer to initially use the brush to get the colour exactly where I want it and then add a little with my finger for an extra pop. In the crease, the brush does totally fine. Both methods work really well, it’s totally preference here.

Swatches

Okay so now onto the really good part, the swatches. I picked up 14 shades in a variety of finishes, so you’ll get to see a pretty wide range.

3

3Swatch

3- a brown base with lots of multi-coloured and silver glitter.

Amaze

Amaze

Amazeswatch

Amaze- Amaze is a soft rose gold shade that is quite shimmery, but doesn’t have any big flecks of glitter. This leans more toward copper than pink if that makes sense.

Bandit

Bandit

Banditswatch

Bandit- a matte warm brown with strong red undertones. I love this shade, it’s the perfect shade for deepening up a look but giving it warmth at the same time.

Cop a Feel

copafeel

copafeelswatch

Cop a Feel- This shade is pretty close to my skin tone, so it doesn’t have a ton of impact on me, but it is nice for cleaning up edges and blending. It is a matte beige with some soft peach undertones.

Desert

Desert

Desertswatch

Desert- A warm satin camel brown.

Fringe

Fringe

Fringeswatch

Fringe- A soft champagne gold with silver and gold shimmer. I love these kind of shades, not too gold, but perfect to add something to an every day eye look.

Girly

Girly

Girlyswatch

Girly- Vanilla with reflects of pink and gold. This shade is really unique, but it does better as a topper. On it’s own it’s just not quite enough for me. Not that it’s not pigmented, but it’s pretty light. As a topper it really brings attention to the centre of the lid. It is an excellent brow bone or inner corner highlight, which is what I like to use it for the most.

Hustle

Hustle

Hustleswatch

Hustle- A deep matte purple-burgundy. I love these kind of shades, they are so flattering on hazel eyes. I love this in the crease, it’s dark but not flat.

Mittens

Mittens

Mittensswatch

Mittens- A matte warm cocoa brown that is much less red than Bandit. This is perfect for deepening up the lower lashline or in the crease.

On the Rocks

OntheRocks

Ontherocksswatch

On the Rocks- a brassy bronze with lots of multi-coloured glitter.

Play

Play

Playswatch

Play- A medium caramel coloured shade with peach undertones. This shade makes a great transition shade on my skin tone.

So Quiche

Soquiche

soquicheswatch

So Quiche- Olive with pink-violet and gold glitter. This might be my favourite shade of all the ones I have. It’s so unique.

Sunnies

Sunnies

Sunniesswatch

Sunnies- A medium burnt orange shade. This might seem totally random since I don’t really wear a ton of bright shades. Lately I’ve been really curious about using an orange shade in the crease to really add warmth. I really like how this looks when it’s all blended out, it adds another dimension to an eye look. Will I wear this on the lid? Probably not, but I do really like it in the crease. It looks a little scary at first, but just keep blending and it looks amazing.

Tea Party

Teaparty

Teapartyswatch

Tea Party- A peachy pink shade with loads of glitter in it. This shade is pretty on top of Amaze and I think it would look nice on top of a matte peach like Nectar from the Lorac Pro Palette 2. This kind of shade just really makes you look girly and fresh.

So there are all the shades I chose. I did want to include a sample look as well, so you can see what these look like on. Here is the quick eye look I wore today.

SampleLook

This mainly features Hustle (crease and outer V) and So Quiche (lid) but I also used Cop a Feel, Bandit and Desert.

Final Thoughts

These are amazing. They have so many unique shades and the price point is great. I really haven’t found any flaws. They wear well throughout the day, are pigmented, they don’t crease and I haven’t experienced any fall out. I can’t really ask for much more. The ONLY thing if I was to ask for anything is for them to improve their shipping. It was expensive and they don’t ship international yet, which is so sucky. I hear that they’re working on that though. In all, these 100% live up to the hype. Plus the company is so sassy and I love a company that can have a little fun, I mean makeup is supposed to be fun.

What do you think of these? Have you tried anything from ColourPop?

Bye for now!
