Makeup Geek Duochrome Collection: Shadow and Pigment Combinations

Hi Everyone!

I recently hauled and reviewed the Makeup Geek Duochrome collection, but I feel like these deserve a follow up post. I often find myself staring into my Z-Palette or looking at the pigments wondering what I could pair with them to make them look their best. Being a lover of neutrals, I can get a little overwhelmed by so much amazing colour variety. The Duochrome collection is a collection that looks different each time you play around with them, so you have so much freedom to create with these. When I scanned the internet looking for inspiration, I didn’t really find what I was looking for, which has led me to write this post today. I’m going to share with you some combinations I have loved with these, to hopefully spark your own creativity.

Chameleon Pigment with Make up For Ever M928 (Eggplant)

IMG_1057

This creates such a unique combination. Chameleon pigment is this beautiful mermaid type shade and pairing it with purple really pulls the green in it out. MUFE Eggplant is a huge staple in my collection and I reach for it for a ton of different looks.

Chameleon Pigment and L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadow- Eternal Sunshine

IMG_1060

Chameleon pigment also has lots of gold in it, so to pull that out, I paired it with the brightest yellow gold I own and it really works well to compliment Chameleon.

Sugar Rush Pigment and Inglot #88 Gel Liner

IMG_1062

When I first used Sugar Rush on it’s own, it didn’t do a ton for me I’ll admit. I needed a way to pull out the teal reflect that is so pretty when swatched. So I decided maybe it needed a base. I used the Inglot liner all over my lid and pressed Sugar Rush on top and it created this really beautiful, bright teal eye. This one is not for the fearful of colour, but I thought it was a nice pop on the lid.

Karma and Make Up For Ever M846 Morello Cherry

IMG_1065

Karma is a strong yellow gold with subtle warm brown undertones and green reflects. This shade pairs really well with red shades since it compliments the warm tones. Morello Cherry is a true brick red shade, but blends out softly so it doesn’t overpower Karma. If you have hazel or green eyes like I do, these kind of pairings will do wonders for your eye colour. This also screams holiday to me.

Hologram Pigment and Kat Von D Rewind and Analogue (Mi Vida Loca Remix Palette)

IMG_1067

Hologram is a very versatile shade that looks great with basically any warm toned shade. I love to create a super warm crease with light browns and an orange like Analogue and then buff a little of Rewind on the outer corner for some deeper warmth.

Ritzy and MUFE 660- Speculous

IMG_1069

Ritzy is such a unique and one that really shines when paired with simple neutrals. This is why I like this one with Speculous as it’s a very warm brown with strong yellow undertones which compliment the gold in this shade.

Kaleidoscope and Lorac Navy

IMG_1072

Kaleidoscope is a really unique shade as it’s grey with purple reflects, but it also has teal as well. In order to pull out the sort of slate tones it has, I paired this with Navy from the Lorac Pro Palette 2. You could put Navy in the crease and outer corner or all over the lid and layer Kaleidoscope over it for a deep smoky eye. It looks great both ways.

So there you have it! These are the combinations I have been testing out thus far. Are there any MUG Duochromes you’re stuck on? Leave them in the comments below and maybe we can come up with some combinations together!

ColourPop Super Shock Eyeshadow Review and Swatches

Hi Everyone!

I have jumped on the ColourPop train. Is anyone shocked? I’m not. I have been curious about these shadows for so long, so with some of my Christmas money I decided to suck up the Canadian shipping (14.99?!…ouch) and make these babies mine. I got them last week and after taking some time to play with them I’m going to share my thoughts with you today.

Packaging

As usual, we’re going to first look at the packaging.

Packaging

ColourPop is based in California, so I was a bit worried about it getting to me intact. Luckily, there was a ton of care packed into the box and everything arrived as it should. Usually with cosmetics, you might get some bubble wrap or packing peanuts, but with this it came wrapped in a thick layer of of foam which filled the entire box. I was so impressed. Plus it was marked fragile on the outside, something I see less and less on the packages I receive. So far, so great I say.

Note

So once I got through the foam, I found a sweet handwritten thank you note addressed to me. If you’re familiar with ColourPop, then you’ll know that they actually do this for every package, which is such a nice personal touch. It might be small, but this kind of stuff takes time, so I do appreciate it.

IMG_5486

Once I got through that, I made it to the shadows. Each came in it’s own little teal and white box and the side of each box reminds you to keep the lids closed tightly to ‘keep the magic in’. I seriously have become so paranoid about the lids being tight, I literally lay in bed wondering if all the lids are tight enough…ya…errr…we’ll refer to that as dedication. The packaging is so adorable and so nice considering these shadows are only $5. You just don’t see presentation like that often on affordable products. The only knock I have against the outer packaging is that the names weren’t written on the outside, so I did have to open them to see which shade was which. So minor since the shade names are on the shadows themselves. I’m being picky.

capon

As for a packaging of the shadows themselves, these come in little white pots with screw caps. Since these aren’t regular shadows (I’ll get to this), they can’t be depotted from my understanding as they need to be airtight. I usually don’t gravitate to single eyeshadows and I actually don’t really own any, but these are an exception. I’m not really bothered that I can’t depot them surprisingly. The only thing I will say about the screw cap is that if you’re hands are wet or greasy, they are pretty hard to get off. This morning I put some oil in my hair and then went to open one and my hand was sliding all over the place. Once again, minor. I think overall the packaging is so well done and looks so sleek. It’s completely my style.

Shadows

pattern

Now onto the good part, the shadows. These are so unique, it’s almost impossible to describe. The texture of these is like a cool mousse type texture.Β  It’s like a gel-mousse formula. I don’t consider these to be like cream shadows at all. These are so different than cream eyeshadows because they set like a powder and they don’t crease. Also unlike cream shadows, these don’t need anything on top to set, they are good to go on their own! A lot of the shades I chose are quite shimmery and some have glitter, but you can’t feel it at all. These are completely smooth. To go along with that, these have absolutely no fall out or at least I haven’t experienced any. Pretty incredible, right?

Application

They do recommend that you apply these with your fingers. For the purposes of this review I tried that method and I also used a brush to see how they would perform. I used my finger and got excellent pigmentation, but a bit of a messy application. It’s not my favourite method. It has nothing to do with the shadows, just my personal preference. I decided to use a brush and I still got good pigmentation, but I did need to build it up a tiny bit more. After both I prefer to initially use the brush to get the colour exactly where I want it and then add a little with my finger for an extra pop. In the crease, the brush does totally fine. Both methods work really well, it’s totally preference here.

Swatches

Okay so now onto the really good part, the swatches. I picked up 14 shades in a variety of finishes, so you’ll get to see a pretty wide range.

3Swatch

3- a brown base with lots of multi-coloured and silver glitter.

Amaze

Amaze

Amazeswatch

Amaze- Amaze is a soft rose gold shade that is quite shimmery, but doesn’t have any big flecks of glitter. This leans more toward copper than pink if that makes sense.

Bandit

Bandit

Banditswatch

Bandit- a matte warm brown with strong red undertones. I love this shade, it’s the perfect shade for deepening up a look but giving it warmth at the same time.

Cop a Feel

copafeel

copafeelswatch

Cop a Feel- This shade is pretty close to my skin tone, so it doesn’t have a ton of impact on me, but it is nice for cleaning up edges and blending. It is a matte beige with some soft peach undertones.

Desert

Desert

Desertswatch

Desert- A warm satin camel brown.

Fringe

Fringe

Fringeswatch

Fringe- A soft champagne gold with silver and gold shimmer. I love these kind of shades, not too gold, but perfect to add something to an every day eye look.

Girly

Girly

Girlyswatch

Girly- Vanilla with reflects of pink and gold. This shade is really unique, but it does better as a topper. On it’s own it’s just not quite enough for me. Not that it’s not pigmented, but it’s pretty light. As a topper it really brings attention to the centre of the lid. It is an excellent brow bone or inner corner highlight, which is what I like to use it for the most.

Hustle

Hustle

Hustleswatch

Hustle- A deep matte purple-burgundy. I love these kind of shades, they are so flattering on hazel eyes. I love this in the crease, it’s dark but not flat.

Mittens

Mittens

Mittensswatch

Mittens- A matte warm cocoa brown that is much less red than Bandit. This is perfect for deepening up the lower lashline or in the crease.

On the Rocks

OntheRocks

Ontherocksswatch

On the Rocks- a brassy bronze with lots of multi-coloured glitter.

Play

Play- A medium caramel coloured shade with peach undertones. This shade makes a great transition shade on my skin tone.

So Quiche

Soquiche

soquicheswatch

So Quiche- Olive with pink-violet and gold glitter. This might be my favourite shade of all the ones I have. It’s so unique.

Sunnies

Sunnies

Sunniesswatch

Sunnies- A medium burnt orange shade. This might seem totally random since I don’t really wear a ton of bright shades. Lately I’ve been really curious about using an orange shade in the crease to really add warmth. I really like how this looks when it’s all blended out, it adds another dimension to an eye look. Will I wear this on the lid? Probably not, but I do really like it in the crease. It looks a little scary at first, but just keep blending and it looks amazing.

Tea Party

Teaparty

Teapartyswatch

Tea Party- A peachy pink shade with loads of glitter in it. This shade is pretty on top of Amaze and I think it would look nice on top of a matte peach like Nectar from the Lorac Pro Palette 2. This kind of shade just really makes you look girly and fresh.

So there are all the shades I chose. I did want to include a sample look as well, so you can see what these look like on. Here is the quick eye look I wore today.

SampleLook

This mainly features Hustle (crease and outer V) and So Quiche (lid) but I also used Cop a Feel, Bandit and Desert.

Final Thoughts

These are amazing. They have so many unique shades and the price point is great. I really haven’t found any flaws. They wear well throughout the day, are pigmented, they don’t crease and I haven’t experienced any fall out. I can’t really ask for much more. The ONLY thing if I was to ask for anything is for them to improve their shipping. It was expensive and they don’t ship international yet, which is so sucky. I hear that they’re working on that though. In all, these 100% live up to the hype. Plus the company is so sassy and I love a company that can have a little fun, I mean makeup is supposed to be fun.

What do you think of these? Have you tried anything from ColourPop?

Bye for now!

September 2014 Favourites!

Hi Everyone!

September is nearing the end and that means it’s favourites time! I have really been experimenting with my makeup looks this month so I didn’t have obvious favourites right away, I had to think about these.

BH Blush Palettes

BH blush palettes

My first favourite for September is a ‘budget buy’. I picked up the Professional (left) and Glamorous (right) palettes earlier this month and I have been really enjoying the extra blush variety. I’ll admit when I first got these, I wasn’t too excited as they swatched horribly. Luckily they look much better on your cheeks than swatched. These were really inexpensive (about $7.50 each), yet I still have loads of variety. In addition to using them on their own, I’ve also been layering them with other blush to make unique combos.

bronzepeach

This bronzey-peach shade is one of my favourites. I own nothing like it, but it blends so beautifully with my bronzer to create a bronzed glowy look. This would have been a great summer shade, but I’m still wearing it into fall.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush- Luminous Flush

hourglassblush

On the complete opposite of the blush scale, my next favourite isn’t a budget buy by any means. I did get this in a blog sale, so I got a bit off even though it was never used. It’s a really pigmented, yet naturally looking corally-rose shade. This just gives me subtle glow and a nice flush of colour.

hourglassswatch

Lorac Pro Palette

ProPalette

No surprise here, but I have been loving the Pro Palette to death. I do really love this in combination with the Pro Palette 2, which was a favourite from last month, but this is beautiful on it’s own as well. I have been meaning to review this, but I do want to include some sample looks like I did for the Pro Palette 2, but every time I use this I’m usually heading right out the door to class. It just has so many great fall colours. I have particularly been loving Mauve, Sable, Espresso, Garnet and Lt. Bronze. These shades look especially stunning when I’m wearing my blue contacts!

Sigma Brushes- Flat Definer, E40, Pencil Brush

I have 3 favourites brushes this month. The Sigma Flat Definer brush has become a fast favourite of mine. This brush is a great size to quickly push colour into the lower lashline. I most often use this with a dark colour (like Sable or Espresso) to really define my lower lashline before I buff it out with my next favourite brush, which is the Sigma E30 Pencil Brush.

flatdefiner

I have never owned a pencil brush before this one and I must say there is nothing really like it. I will usually dip this in a lighter shade like Taupe from the Pro Palette or Lt Brown from the Pro 2 Palette and then buff it along the lower lashline to blend. It makes everything look so seamless. I think a pencil brush is a staple brush to have.

pencilbrush

The last brush I have been loving is the Sigma E40 Blending Brush. This brush is perfect for adding a transition colour. I love dipping this in my transition shade and with pretty little effort, my eye look looks really blended and smooth. It’s also great for softening the edges of crease colours. Overall, a very useful brush.

E40

Maybelline Colossal Volum Express Mascara

colossal

My second last favourite of the month is a drugstore mascara. I have been searching for a good drugstore mascara that doesn’t run and doesn’t make my eyes itchy and gives separation, length and volume of course. This isn’t perfect in the run department as it will run a little if my eyes are watery, but it’s not itchy and it gives amazing length, separation and volume. It doesn’t get clumpy at all and it gives loads of volume. I really like this mascara and it’s pretty inexpensive.

MAC Diva Lipstick

divadivaswatch

My last favourite for September has to go to MAC Diva lipstick. My friend Jen was recently at a MAC store and she brought this back for me because she knew I had my eye on it. It’s such a beautiful deep, vampy burgundy wine shade. I don’t have anything else like it, my dark lipsticks have a lot of purple in them where this is definitely red-wine toned. If you’re looking for a lip liner to pair with this Jordana Cabernet pairs perfectly and it’s super cheap. I have to add that this lipstick looks amazing on people with fair skin and blue eyes…ugggghhhh! The burgundy undertones contrast really well with blue eye colours making them pop like crazy! I know I will be wearing this TONS now that fall is here.

So there you have it, my September favourites! I have been loving transitioning to fall makeup this month and I can’t wait to experiment even more! Leave me a comment below and let me know what you have been loving in the month, I’d love to find some new potential favourites for October!

Bye for now,

Chelsey

Cherry Culture Haul!

Hey Everyone!

I’m back today with a haul! Who doesn’t love a good haul? This haul is from cherryculture.com and it’s mainly NYX stuff with a little Milani thrown in. NYX is tough to find in Canada and I don’t think Milani is available at all, so I decided I would order some to test these brands out. There are mixed reviews on this site, so I’ll give you my experience at the end.

Lips

I got a lot of lip products during this haul. I realized that this area was seriously lacking in my collection and with spring apparently here, I decided I needed some fresh lip colours. I have heard so much about the products I chose so I had to test them out for myself.

I knew for sure that I was going to pick up some of the NYX Butter Lipsticks and Butter Glosses. They have been pretty hyped up for a few months and I just couldn’t wait any longer.

Butter Lipsticks

I chose 3 shades out of the ones that Cherry Culture had, which was not the whole line. I picked bright, springy colours and steered away from reds and darks because I’m not into those at the moment. I want spring to come, so I’m trying to encourage it πŸ™‚ The colours I picked are called, Little Suzie, Razzle and Candy Buttons. I just got the package today so I haven’t worn these yet, but from swatching I can tell that they are pigmented, creamy and do have a stain effect. Candy Buttons is a medium peach shade and is the lightest of the shades I chose. Razzle is a fushia with a little purple undertone. Lastly, Little Suzie is a pinky-orangey coral. I think I made good shade choices, they are all pretty different and not like what I already own. I’ll see how these do on, but I can see myself with more of these.

Butter Glosses

Next I got 3 of the butter glosses. The site had quite a few of these, but I had to limit myself slightly. I picked Maple Blondie, Strawberry Parfait and Apple Strudel. First off these smell amazing. It’s a sweet, sugary vanilla smell, but it’s not sickeningly sweet. I appreciate a company that didn’t choose mint because that’s not my favourite. They are pigmented and from swatching, they don’t seem sticky. In the picture Maple Blondie and Apple Strudel look similar, but Apple Strudel is more orange in person. I think on the lips they’ll probably be fairly similar. Maple Blondie is pinky coral, Strawberry Parfait is a cool toned pinkΒ  and Apple Strudel is almost a light coral.

NYX Black Label Lipstick- India

The last lip product from Nyx I got was a Black Label Lipstick in the colour India. I really like Shaaanxo and she recommended this as a great nude style lip. I have already worn this and I really like it. It doesn’t wash me out and it’s not frosted.

Milani Lip Intense Liquid Color

I decided to pick up 2 of the Milani Liquid Lipsticks. They have 4 shades available, but I picked 2. These were created to be EXTREMELY bright and they delivered. I picked up Pink Rave, which is bright fuchsia and Fiery Coral which is a florescent coral, almost highlighter like. I wore Pink Rave yesterday and it is so long lasting!Β  These are super-duper pigmented and do have a staining effect. After washing my hand 3 times with rubbing alcohol and soap, I still have pigment on my hand. I think these are absolutely perfect for spring. I know I can rock Pink Rave for sure, but I may mix Fiery Coral with something to tone it down. I picture it being so stunning with a summer tan.

Lastly for lips, I got a free lip balm from Cherry Culture for spending over $25. They have a ton of flavours and I chose lime. It’s decent.

Eyes

Next I picked up some eye products.

NYX Jumbo Eye Pencils

I have been eying the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencils for a long time, so I picked up 3 of those. I chose Strawberry Milk, which is a Glittery, light pink. I think this will be a great base with the Naked 3 palette. The second shade I picked is called Purple Velvet and it’s a deep plum shade. I want to experiement with a purple smoky eye and this will be perfect. Lastly I picked up Milk, which is pure white. I got this because anything I put over it will look brighter and I have eyeshadows that would look really vibrant over this.

NYX Cream Eyeshadow

I decided to try out a cream eyeshadow as well (can you tell I love eye bases?). The shade I picked is called Pinky Beige and I’m pretty obsessed with it. It is shimmery rose gold that dries to a powder finish. I will get so much use out of this with the Naked 3 palette. I think rose gold is really flattering for my hazel eyes. It looks coppery in the picture, but it’s much more pink in person.

Eyeliner

I decided to pick up some eyeliners because I actually didn’t own a black pencil (so weird). And the bronze eyeliner looked awesome.

I also decided to try out a new liquid liner since I haven’t used one in a while and I have to say this is awesome. It is so smooth and makes for easy, easy winged liner. The brush is really fine so it makes for a neat, smooth line. I love it. I know I will buy this again and again.

Face

Although I got so many lip and eye products, I picked up a couple face products.

Blush

I decided to get a couple of blushes because I heard they are pigmented and they are inexpensive, so win, win πŸ™‚ Two of the shades I picked ended up being similar which was surprising, but they’re still nice.

The first two are both NYX and they’re just basic pinks. Mocha is matte and darker, while Pinched has a little shimmer and it lighter. Mocha has a little more red or orange in it. And lastly I picked up Luminoso, the popular Milani blush, just to give it a try. It is shimmery peach. I usually like matte blushes, but I am looking to add more glow to my face, so I’m hoping this will do that.

The last thing I picked up is the Dewy Finish Setting Spray. I have an ELF setting spray, but the mist is not fine at all, so it literally blasts me in the face. Since my skin is normal/dry I thought the dewy feature would be a good thing to have around.

That’s the haul! All of this stuff is $3-$7 USD each, so not expensive. The pricing is right in the middle of super cheap and more high end prices.

CherryCulture.com

Since this website has mixed reviews I thought I would share my experiences, in hopes that it’s helpful. While I was going through the site I was googling swatches of shades and finding that they looked nothing like the pictures on the site. I would definitely reccommend googling the shades to get a more accurate picture, the ones on the site are not even close. I placed my order (shipping is determined by weight, no flat rate) and then it came up saying I needed to verify my account by sending them my ID with any details covered. I FREAKED. It really scared me that something was going to go wrong. Of course this was a Friday so I couldn’t sort out the problem then and there was no way in hell that I was sending them my ID. I waited until Monday and called to figure what options I had. I just verified my payment info over the phone and I was all set, it shipped the next day. My shipping option didn’t have a tracking number, so I assumed it would be a fairly slow delivery. I was so surprised when it came 10 days after placing my order. I was really impressed by that. Everything was packed tightly and everything came in tact. I would definitely order from this site again.

Overall I’m super happy with my haul! Let me know in the comments below if there is something from my haul that you’re dying to try, I’d love to know πŸ™‚

Bye for now,

Chelsey

P.S. Stay tuned for a tutorial coming soon!

7 Deadly Sins of Beauty Tag

Hey Everyone!

I decided to do my first tag today! School is getting super busy, so I wanted to post something before it’s been too long. I saw the this tag floating around a while back, but I figured it doesn’t get old, so I could still do it. Let’s get started!

GREED: What is your most inexpensive beauty item? What is your most expensive?

I’ll start off with inexpensive because who doesn’t love a bargain? My least expensive beauty item would really be almost any of my ELF products. Not only are they cheap to begin with, I usually wait for a sale, so the deal is even sweeter.I don’t have anything from ELF including palettes that was over $6. For most expensive, I have to go with my 2 Naked palettes. They are $62 each, but so worth it to me. The quality is on point.

WRATH: What beauty products do you have a love/hate relationship with?

I had to think about this one a bit because I love all my products in some way, but I’m going to pick highlighters. I love what they look like on other people, but I’ve yet to achieve that on myself. I’m not sure if I haven’t found the right shade or what it is, but I just can’t achieve that glowy look.

GLUTTONY: What are your most delicious beauty products?

This was not remotely difficult. I have to go with Chocolate Soleil Bronzer from Too Faced that came in a holiday palette. You cannot get any better than smelling and tasting chocolate while glamming up your face. When chocolate and makeup are combined, it’s my personal heaven.

SLOTH: What beauty product do you neglect, due to laziness?

I always rush finishing my makeup so I often forget to highlight my browbone and the inner corners of my eyes. It’s mainly laziness, but shadow on the inner corner really seems to bother my eyes so I end up rubbing them until it’s gone anyway.

PRIDE: What beauty product gives you the most self confidence?

This is a tough one. I have 2 for this since I can’t decide. First is eyeshadow because I love playing up the green in my eyes and second is mascara. I love long fluttery lashes!

LUST: What attributes do you find most attractive in the opposite sex?

I like someone who is overall kind hearted, genuine and honest. For looks I like light eyes and lighter hair. Most important of all is that they can just be themselves.

ENVY: What items would you most like to receive as a gift?

Obviously anything makeup related makes me happy, but I appreciate gifts that have a lot of thought put into them, no matter how small.

That’s the end of the tag, hope you enjoyed my quick post and I will be back soon! I think I will do a prom tutorial just for fun, even though I’m too old for prom. Any excuse to put on fancy makeup πŸ™‚

Bye for now!
